I was just reading this on my friend's  blog, and I thought I'd link to it, because I thought it was funny.

So, today at school I had an observation by my principal.  I had a whole day of excellent lesson plans for all my classes.  She didn't come until the last 25 minutes of the day.  I have a class of 22 third grade boys that hour.  AAAHH.  We were finished a project, and so for the last 15 minutes it was just free time/controlled chaos.  I felt like an idiot.  I can't wait to read THAT evaluation.

New art class
Posted on 2006--0-9- 29: 1:3:

tonight I start a new art class-it's a ceramics class for adults, and I'm a bit nervous, because I haven't used the wheel since like March.  I hope that I still "have it!"  I think it's a little like riding your bike, where you don't really forget how to do it, but it's not good to teach something when you are feeling a little rusty yourself!  i am going to go really early and make a few things before we get started.  It's a full class.  Yeah!  But, I hate that they don't pay me until the END of the 6 week class!!  Why??

teaching

Today I'm teaching about Piet Mondrian in my art class about famous artists.  Did you know that he was something called a Neoplatonist (I think that's how it's spelled) and that the believed that evil only existed in the form of something good not being the right color, or in the wrong place.  So, he completely outlawed green from being in his home.  He painted a fake tulip white once!  He was a utopian thinker who was a part of starting the group called De Sjtil which means "the style" in Dutch.  He's fascinating-check him out on wikipedia...

I'm very aware that this generation really doesn't know much about politics and it's actually sort of depressing.  You can tell their apathy by the state of their interest in attitude filled products like Happy Bunny, Hot Topic and politics based on what MTV has to say about the world.  It makes me sad, because these cool brands have the opportunity to really make an impact on kids.  If they promoted something worthwhile in a cool way with their fame, I know kids would catch on!

Politicians secret lives
Posted on 2006--0-9- 14: 1:0:

I've always wondered what it would be like to live in the limelight like politicians do.  I mean-can you really have any secrets with people always taking your picture and looking up your background, and interviewing your family?  What if they secretly just loved sci-fi, or wanted THIS in their bathroom, but were afraid it would end up impacting the way society saw them?  Or what if they really just want to wear their favorite hat, but know that it isn't very politically correct?

Art in the Park
Posted on 2006--0-9- 14: 1:0:

So, this weekend I was supposed to get to spend some time wandering about lazily in the park in Bellevue, admiring the river, looking at the local artisans wares, and then being inspired to go home and work on my own stuff.  INSTEAD...I locked my keys in the car in a bad part of town, and had to sit with my car for 3 hours, since I didn't trust leaving my keys in the ignition in that area of town.  I got to race through the art for literally 5 minutes, and never even noticed the river.  I spent 10 minutes later that night working on my printmaking.  BOO.

Better luck this weekend perhaps??

Concert this weekend
Posted on 2006--0-9- 8: 2:0:

There's a great local concert this weekend of a band called The Moseys, and they are playing at the Poison Room.  Sounds scary, but it's really not.  I would highly suggest making a day of it, by going to see art in Bellevue, grabbing dinner and then heading to the Poison Room!

Local Art Fest
Posted on 2006--0-9- 5: 1:4:

There is an art in the park festival this weekend in Bellevue park on the "beach" of the Ohio River, and you don't want to miss it!  I unfortunately will be arriving late, because I am attending a wedding earlier in the day, but I hope to see you there otherwise!

Art Smart!
Posted on 2006--0-8- 25: 1:2:

As an art teacher, art is on my mind pretty much all the time.  How can I take that piece of art and make it into an art project, how can I purchase art materials for the cheapest, and how messy can I keep my room before my principle objects?  (ha!)  School starts tomorrow, and we are doing a pirates theme.  Each grade is going to make a different project having to do with pirates-see as follows:

K-cut out a treasure box and color jewels all around it

1st- make a treasure map

2nd- draw and color a parrot

3rd-draw a pirate ship scene

4th- Make their own flag for a ship

5th and 6th- draw themselves as a pirate.

I think this has great possibilities for a cute bulletin board, which is of great importance when parents come in for those first parent-teacher conferences!

Curious George Birthday Extravaganza!
Posted on 2006--0-6- 16: 1:5:

It is amazing how well the new Curious George Movies did this year.  According to reports it grossed $58,386,000 just in the U.S.  My kids had to see it twice in the theatres and now they want a Curious George Birthday Party.  My wife discovered a great site that had all the Curious George Party Supplies you could ask for - all online.  No hassles, shipped straight to your door.  The Party is only two weeks away.  Makes me wonder how much the movie will have grossed by then:

Mac

 Mac users sharing their love...

Ah yes...I'm am one of the most recent to fall under the Apple spell.  Unlike you have been a faithful PC user but my powerbook complete with isight, ipod and verizon wireless card are my new best friends.  I went from the most expensive and advanced PC laptop to this powerbook and this thing is generations beyond what I was using before.

Before I thought this Macimaniah was illogical and underserved customer loyalty but no longer.  They deserve every bit of customer loyalty they get and  continue to prove and improve the value of their brand with each passing day.

Great case study...

Unprotected Networks

Rejoicing with another fellow wi-fi pirate -

Thank goodness for those unprotected networks. Its such a blessing to find one when you need it it should be illegal to encrypt. All my best as you settle in.
